Anna Marie Mitchell Named Cambridge Who's Who Professional of the Year in International Studies Education

Cambridge Who's Who has named Anna Marie Mitchell, Retired Professor of Japanese Language at Waldorf College, Professional of the Year in International Studies Education for 2006-2007.

Forest City, IA (PRWEB) December 5, 2006 -- Cambridge Who's Who has named Anna Marie Mitchell, Retired Professor of Japanese Language at Waldorf College, Professional of the Year in International Studies Education for 2006-2007. While inclusion in Cambridge Who's Who is itself an honor, only one member in each discipline is named Cambridge Who's Who Professional of the Year. The Cambridge Who's Who selection committee hand picks these special Who's Who honorees based on accomplishments, academic achievement, leadership, and service.

In 1950, Mitchell was invited to Japan as one of the first missionaries of the Evangelical Lutheran Church. During her 32 years there, Mitchell helped start a church and Sunday school, teaching English and bible classes. Upon returning to the US, she directed Waldorf's Rassmussen Hall from 1983-1988, enlightening students about Japanese culture by hosting a Japanese room and serving Japanese meals. In 1988, she became Waldorf's international student advisor, acting as "grandmother" to hundreds of international students. From 1994 until her retirement, Mitchell taught Japanese. She also coordinated Waldorf's International Orientation Program, the Global Fest and Cultural Show, a host family program, and speaking engagements for international students.

Mitchell received her A.A. from Waldorf in 1958 and her B.S. in education from Augustana College. She has served as Waldorf Auxiliary president, Alumni Board president, Waldorf Sunday speaker, and Mission Conference speaker. She is also active in the Christian Women's Club and the Mission Committee at Immanuel Lutheran Church.
