JHL Supply and Camping Survival.com are pleased to announce the debut of two new web sites created for providing assistance to outdoor adventurers: Wilderness Survival Stories.com and Survival Fire Making.com.

As the name suggests, Wilderness Survival Stories.com provides information and real life wilderness survival experiences, with firsthand accounts from people who have experienced life-or-death situations, as well as recommendations on how to plan and equip yourself for outdoor adventures.

"When JHL Supply launched Camping Survival.com, we focused initially on providing customers with the best wilderness survival gear," said Tom Sciacca, President of JHL Supply and a former US Marine. "But with the number of stories you hear in the news about people getting lost in remote locations, we realized that it would be very helpful for people to have a source for information and recommendations from the people who actually survived those incidents."

Below is an excerpt from a survivor's account of a perilous journey down Minnesota's Snake River after having been lulled into a false sense of security by unseasonably warm weather:

"My body temp was dropping and I realized the air temp was dropping as well. In the space of 45 minutes, I estimated it had dropped to around 30 degrees F. I didn't have a lay of the land but realized as darkness fell we needed to build a fire fast. We got out of the river to the north, and as the sun was setting all I could see was an endless stretch of state forest. I went for my matches and found them soaked and useless."

The writer goes on to describe how the ordeal ended, as well as what he learned from the experience, with helpful tips on what other travelers should anticipate when embarking on a wilderness adventure.

"Just off the top of my head, I can think of five news stories in the past month of people getting lost in remote places," he continued. "From Mount Pilchuck in Washington to Mount Washington in New Hampshire, as well as Mount Baldy in New Mexico, there is no shortage of situations where people go for a casual hike in the woods and find themselves struggling for survival."

That fact, in turn, prompted Sciacca to launch Survival Fire Making.com, which specializes in some of the most important tools for staying alive in remote places. Survival Fire Making.com features everything from compression and friction fire starting devices to fire strikers, match boxes, tinder and other essential items.

Camping Survival.com, launched in 2002 by JHL Supply, has earned a reputation as one of the leading online authorities on camping and survival gear, and has had consistent and rapid growth ever since. With a huge selection of wilderness survival equipment, such as water filter systems, first aid kits and MRE (meals ready to eat), it is a one stop shop for all things connected with outdoor adventure and survival.

Now that customers recognize the importance of these survival supplies, Sciacca explained, they want a place to gather information about when to use them and which supplies are most useful for a given situation. Wilderness Survival Stories.com and Survival FireMaking.com are two excellent resources for learning what to prepare for and how obtain the necessary wilderness supplies.

Sciacca, a former Marine and veteran of the 1991 Gulf War, says he is continuing to accept submissions from others who have faced wilderness survival situations. For more information, visit the site at http://www.WildernessSurvivalStories.com .
