Ten years ago, job boards began to replace newspapers as the main place where people looked to find new jobs

San Francisco-based Red Herring magazine has named Eluta.ca as a finalist in this year's Canada Top 50 competition. The influential and widely-read financial and technology magazine has included the Toronto-based job search engine on its list of finalists, which recognizes the most innovative and promising new companies.
"It's a great honor to receive this recognition from a magazine of Red Herring's stature," says Kim Peters, President & CEO of Eluta Inc. "Our search engine is changing the way Canadians look for work and we are thrilled Red Herring recognizes the significance of our industry-changing, disruptive technology."
Unlike traditional job boards, Eluta.ca lets job-seekers search for new positions directly from employers' websites. The search engine bypasses traditional job boards so job-seekers can find new positions as soon as they are posted. "Ten years ago, job boards began to replace newspapers as the main place where people looked to find new jobs," says Tony Meehan, Founder and Chairman of Eluta Inc. "Today, job boards themselves are being overtaken by specialized vertical search engines, such as Eluta.ca."
Launched in 2006, Eluta.ca is Canada's largest vertical search engine specializing in the job search space. Besides its proprietary search technology, Eluta.ca includes valuable editorial information on thousands of employers drawn from the annual Canada's Top 100 Employers competition, managed by Eluta's sister company. These reviews allow Eluta.ca users to evaluate opportunities they find on the job search engine. Each month, job-seekers perform over 5 million searches on Eluta.ca.
Beginning October 4, 2008, visitors to Eluta.ca will be able to read the competition organizers' detailed Reasons for Selection, explaining why each of the winning employers was selected. "This is tremendously useful information for job-seekers," says Richard Yerema, Managing Editor of the Canada's Top 100 Employers project, "that will be available only on Eluta.ca."
Previous startups on Red Herring's Top 50 list in the USA include companies such as Google, Yahoo and VeriSign.
