Port Colborne, Ontario (PRWEB) July 27, 2007
Parents rejoice! History is fun again. Canal Days, celebrating the Marine Heritage of Lake Erie and the Welland Canal, offers a unique opportunity for families to spend quality time together while learning about the Canal and the Tall Ships that made Port Colborne what it is today. From August 3-6, 2007, the Canal Days Marine Heritage Festival welcomes visitors--from Lake Erie summer vacationers to local day trippers--to celebrate with canal cruises and an array of entertainment that will keep the entire family amused.
The Canal Days festivities center on the Tall Ships that sailed around Niagara Falls on the Welland Canal hundreds of years ago. The event brings the Tall Ship St. Lawrence II, the Challenge, Appledore V, Pathfinder and the ever popular Empire Sandy to Port Colborne, as well as the Bernadine shrimp boat, EM Cotter Fire Boat, Dalhousie Princess Lake Cruiser, Coast Guard vessels, a pilot boat, and a tug. Cruises on the Tall Ships are available throughout Canal Days and serve as a wonderful way to learn about the Niagara region's heritage.
For those in search of a well-rounded Lake Erie summer vacation getaway, Canal Days features a variety of activities over four days--from live music to rides. The Canal Days Concert Series includes Spirit of the West on Friday night; David Wilcox on Saturday night; "all for nothing" on Sunday afternoon; and The Beach Bums on Monday. Kids will enjoy the Haro/Adidas Eyewear Stunt Show at 2 p.m., 4:30 p.m., and 7:00 p.m. on Sunday.
On Saturday, August 4th the Niagara Windriders Kitefliers Association welcomes international Kite Clubs to H.H. Knoll Lakeview Park for a colourful Kite Festival. Also at the park, The 15th Annual Ontario's Largest Classic Car Show will display over 300 cars. And on Sunday at 10 p.m. a fireworks show lights up the Welland Canal at 10 p.m.
Throughout the Canal Days festival, families will enjoy Midway Rides and Games on Princess Street--with the Rockoplane (flipping cages), the Sizzler (Scrambler), and the Dragon Wagon (roller coaster). A children's area with face painting and games is available. As well, a Birds of Prey exhibit offers photos with birds of prey and the opportunity to pet baby barn owls for a unique souvenir from Canal Days.
