Cap Cana, Dominican Republic (PRWEB) February 06, 2012
To celebrate 168 years of independence and the formation of the Dominican Republic, Grand Resorts at Cap Cana is offering special starting rates of $168 per night at its recently opened Fishing Lodge resort.
Located within a masterfully designed village which surrounds the largest inland marina in the Caribbean, Fishing Lodge opened at the end of 2011 and features 298 villas, several of which are built on low-rise docks with swim-out access. The $168 rate is valid for a one-bedroom villa from February 27 (Independence Day) through March 19, 2012 – a period of 22 days which marks the end of the 22-year occupation that Independence Day observes.
Grand Resorts at Cap Cana, which is managed by Salamander Hotels & Resorts, is also featuring celebratory all-inclusive rates during the same time period, which begin at $199 at the Fishing Lodge and $255 at the collection’s nearby oceanfront Sanctuary resort. All-inclusive rates are per person, per night, based on double occupancy. All rates are subject to availability.
In addition to its Independence Day celebratory rates, Grand Resorts at Cap Cana also offers authentic musical entertainment, friendly Dominican service and fresh, indigenous food – including locally caught seafood served daily at the Fishing Lodge’s marina-view Bistrot, and the Sanctuary’s Blue Marlin restaurant, which perches on stilts over the Caribbean Sea.

Located in the exclusive Cap Cana development, which is only 10 minutes from Punta Cana International Airport, Grand Resorts at Cap Cana features the brand new Fishing Lodge, which includes three bars, four pools, a 16th century-style stone wedding chapel, and 30,000 square feet of event spaces. The collection also includes the Sanctuary, which features 176 luxurious suites and villas with ocean views and swim-out access, five restaurants and bars, five pools, a lavish spa and 18,000 square feet of meeting space. Grand Resorts guests can also enjoy the nearby Jack Nicklaus-designed Punta Espada Golf Club – the top-ranked golf course in the Caribbean and Mexico.
The Dominican Republic made its first declaration of independence from Spain on November 30, 1821, only to see the country invaded by Haitian forces in February 1822. Anti-Haitian movements of several kinds gathered force following the overthrow of Haitian President Jean-Pierre Boyer in 1843. In 1838 Juan Pablo Duarte founded a secret society called La Trinitaria, which sought the complete independence of Santo Domingo without any foreign intervention. On February 27, 1844, the Trinitarios declared independence from Haiti. The Dominican Republic’s first Constitution was adopted on November 6, 1844, and was modeled after the United States Constitution.
