Online university's new MS degrees are in Human Resource Management and Organizational Development.

We are also the only university to have three programs acknowledged as aligning with the Society for Human Resource Management's HR Curriculum Guidebook and Templates

Capella University (http://www.capella.edu), an accredited*, online university based in Minneapolis, has announced the launch of two new online master's degree programs, a Master of Science in Human Resource Management and a Master of Science in Organizational Development. The MS in Human Resource Management includes specializations in General Human Resource Management, Industrial and Labor Relations, Legal Studies, and Human Capital Management, while the MS in Organizational Development currently includes one specialization in General Organizational Development.

The new HR Management online master's degree program is designed to meet the changing needs of this fast-growing field. In particular, HR professionals are increasingly viewed as strategic business partners who are expected to bring a combination of HR expertise and business knowledge to their positions. The online master's in Organizational Development offers a multidisciplinary, practitioner approach to a field that a recent issue of SHRM Research Quarterly identified as "one of the most effective tools to promote successful change." Curricula for Capella's new programs and specializations blend human resource management or organizational development topics with business knowledge, and were based on competencies identified by leading human resource management and organizational development organizations.

"Our own experience, as well as information from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, tells us that advanced degrees are becoming increasingly important to many HR positions," said Michael Williams, faculty chair for Human Resources and Leadership at Capella's School of Business and Technology. "Yet there are few online options for advanced HR degrees, especially for HR professionals who want to specialize in such areas as human capital management, labor relations, or employment and labor law. Capella's new programs and specializations will increase the online advanced degree options available to HR professionals and complement our strong existing portfolio of human capital management offerings. With our new programs and specializations, Capella now offers 15 HR-focused specializations at the bachelor's, master's, MBA, and doctoral levels."

"We are also the only university to have three programs acknowledged as aligning with the Society for Human Resource Management's HR Curriculum Guidebook and Templates," added Williams. Worldwide, only 30 programs at 26 universities have been acknowledged by SHRMâ„¢ as being in alignment with its suggested guides and templates. Capella is one of only four universities with online HR degree programs to gain acknowledgement from SHRM. Capella is also a SHRM-approved provider of the SHRM Learning System, which prepares learners to take the Professional in Human Resources (PHR) and Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) certification examinations. SHRM named Capella one of the top five online SHRM Learning System® providers in 2008.

Capella is now accepting enrollment applications for its MS in Human Resource Management and MS in Organizational Development specializations.
