Capella University PhD Graduate Named Vice President at Allegany College of Maryland

Capella University PhD graduate Barbara R. Beebe has been named Vice President of Continuing Education and Community Services for Allegany College of Maryland. Capella (http://www.capella.edu) is an accredited*, fully online university that has built its reputation by providing quality graduate education for working adults. Nearly 85 percent of Capella students are pursuing master's or PhD degrees online.

In her new position, Beebe will be responsible for overseeing The Allegany College of Maryland Center for Continuing Education, which provides lifelong learning opportunities not met through existing credit programs in the tri-state (Pennsylvania, West Virginia and Maryland) region. More than 1,200 courses are currently offered, with over 14,000 student registrations in customized contract training, open enrollment courses, professional conferences, certification courses, and entry-level to senior management programming.

Beebe earned a PhD in education with a specialization in post secondary and adult education from Capella in 2007. More than 1000 colleges and universities have employed Capella learners or alumni.

"Having a PhD was imperative. I couldn't have obtained my current position without it," Beebe said. "Having the degree really gives you the self assurance to pursue the job you desire."
