Our legal professionals have found distracted driving to be a major contributor to a number of local auto collisions and would not be surprised if the rest of the nation was experiencing similar increases.
Andover, Massachusetts (PRWEB) February 21, 2013
According to the National Safety Council, preliminary estimates show that more than 36,000 people lost their lives as a result of fatal auto accidents in 2012. Kiley Law Group, LLC, a personal injury law firm based in Andover, Massachusetts, has reason to believe that the increase was not only predictable, but may have also been avoidable.
When compared to 2011, the estimates provided by the National Safety Council reveal a 5% increase in fatal car accidents. Until 2012, fatal auto collisions had been steadily decreasing. An increase in miles driven nationally since 2011 has also been noted, which may be revealed as a contributing factor for the shift.
According to the Center for Disease Control (CDC), the number of drivers that were reportedly distracted at the time of a fatal car accident had increased 7 percent in 2005 to more than 10 percent in 2009. More than 5,400 people lost their lives in fatal auto collisions that had been reported to involve distracted drivers in 2009.
Janet Froetscher, National Safety Council CEO, has expressed concern over the new estimates. “Although we have improved safety features in vehicles today, we also have new challenges, especially as it relates to teen and distracted driving, that need to be addressed on a national scale. We must work together now to reverse this latest trend to prevent needless tragedy,” said Frotscher.
Tom Kiley Sr., wrongful death lawyer, has assisted countless car accident victims with their personal injury cases and has done so with a success rate that is higher than 90%. “Since we provide free auto collision case evaluations for all first-time callers, we have hundreds of detailed accounts of auto accidents in the last few months alone. Our legal professionals have found distracted driving to be a major contributor to a number of local auto collisions and would not be surprised if the rest of the nation was experiencing similar increases.”
“It was recently announced that mobile internet devices will outnumber humans by the end of 2013. Until an effective plan is put in place to decrease the number of people who use these devices while operating their vehicle, we may see these frightening trends continue to develop,” said attorney Kiley.
According to the National Safety Council’s report, estimated costs resulting from the injuries, property damage, and motor vehicle deaths in 2012 are believed to exceed 276 billion dollars. These costs include those stemming from lost wages, administrative expenses, employer costs, and medical expenses incurred as a result of fatal car collisions.
