Orange County has some of the most congested highways in the country. Anyone who drives on one of our freeways knows that traffic can come to a halt in a second.

Orange County highway accident lawyer Daniel C. Carlton today said a double-fatal accident on the 57 Freeway in Diamond Bar which was reported by the Los Angeles Times on April 24 serves as a stark reminder of the dangers of California’s highways. The husband and wife who were killed were inside of a disabled vehicle that was rear-ended, according to the Times article, “Former O.C. chief executive involved in double fatal crash.

Orange County’s former chief executive Tom Mauk has been identified as the driver of a Cadillac Escalade that slammed into a Toyota Prius that was disabled in the No. 3 lane, according to the Times. He was not arrested and no charges were filed, the article states.

“Highway accidents happen fast in California,” said Carlton, who represents people seriously injured in accidents. “While this tragic accident is under investigation, generally speaking drivers should always be alert about hazards ahead of them. You may come up quickly on a disabled vehicle or some item that fell off a truck, and you’ll need to be prepared to stop or change lanes quickly and safely.”

The fatal, two-car accident occurred at 9:09 p.m. on April 21, 2013, on the southbound side of the 57 Freeway in Diamond Bar, California, according to ABC7 on April 24 (Former Orange County CEO Thomas G. Mauk was driver in fatal Diamond Bar crash). According to ABC7, Thomas G. Mauk was driving 60 mph just north of Pathfinder Road when he struck the Prius.

An Anaheim couple inside the Prius died from their injuries, and the accident remains under investigation, according to the Los Angeles Times.
“Orange County has some of the most congested highways in the country,” Carlton said. “Anyone who drives on one of our freeways knows that traffic can come to a halt in a second.
