New Research Suggests Women Safer Drivers
New research from SGIC has shown that women are safer drivers with men 5 per cent more likely to make a car insurance claim.
Adelaide, SA (PRWEB) May 9, 2009 -- There is another reason to thank Mum this Mothers' Day with new research from SGIC showing women are safer drivers.
SGIC claims research* has shown male drivers are 5 per cent more likely than female drivers to make a car insurance claim, and when they do the average claims cost is higher - making men a greater risk (6 per cent) compared to women.
SGIC State Manager Lee Jameson said that, all things being equal, women were more likely to pay a lower premium on their car insurance with SGIC because they were less likely to have an at-fault crash than men.
"The result of the analysis of our claims data is supported by statistics**, which show more men are involved in accidents that result in serious injury," Ms Jameson said.
"Car insurance premiums are calculated according to the likelihood of making a claim in the future, and as our data shows women are safer drivers it follows they should pay less for their car insurance if they're involved in fewer at-fault crashes.
"If these statistics were reversed, SGIC would be offering reduced car insurance premiums to men."
Ms Jameson said that despite the results of SGIC's claims research, all drivers needed to be alert behind the wheel.
"With inattention a major factor in car crashes**, we would urge everyone to take care on the road at all times," she said.
"Driving is a serious task, and to drive safely we need to give the road our full attention."
