New Research Suggests Going Green Key to Domestic Bliss
Sharing is caring when it comes to being green, according to Queensland households with research by NRMA Insurance revealing couples are more likely to share responsibility for environmentally friendly practices and decisions than other domestic duties.
Brisbane, QLD (PRWEB) June 24, 2009 -- Research by car insurance provider NRMA Insurance has revealed couples are more likely to share responsibility for environmentally friendly practices and decisions than other domestic duties, such as cleaning and mowing the lawn.
More than 50 per cent of couples surveyed said both of them took care of green activities, such as recycling, composting and buying environmentally-friendly products, while only about 30 per cent of couples said they shared cleaning duties or outdoor work.
NRMA Insurance spokesperson Frank Adler said households may be more willing to share the load when it came to the environment because it was a newer area of responsibility, compared to more traditional tasks.
"Increased concerns about climate change and its impact on our weather, plus the recent drought, have prompted households to start considering the environment," he said.
"Because it's a newer consideration, there may be less traditional views around who does what, so responsibility for a household's impact on the environment is shared."
Mr Adler said NRMA Insurance had made it easier for households to consider their car's impact on the environment, thanks to the Greensafe Car Profiler. The online tool allows consumers to research and compare car models around their environmental impact and fuel economy, plus safety and security benefits.
"In short, it takes the hard work out of buying a new car," Mr Adler said.
NRMA Insurance also offers an added incentive to go green with a saving of up to 10 per cent on comprehensive car insurance premiums for selected fuel efficient cars.
NRMA Insurance offers these tips to help households reduce their environmental footprint:
| | - switch to energy-efficient lighting
- cut back on driving by walking, car-pooling, cycling or using public transport
- if you're buying a new car, check how it ranks for fuel efficiency at nrmaqld.com.au/carprofiler
- send less waste to landfill by recycling and composting
- consider a gas-boosted solar water heater to cut electricity use.
