Manchester, UK (PRWEB) June 9, 2009
Each year there are over 15,000 accidents at roundabouts in the UK.
Many local authorities allow companies to 'sponsor' roundabouts in exchange for adverts on the site, but Swinton warns that the signage can be distracting and increase the risk of accidents. These accidents can ruin drivers' no-claims bonuses and force annual car insurance premiums to rise.
In Luton, over 52 roundabouts are available to sponsor ranging in price from £1,000 to £8,000 per year, depending on size of the roundabout and traffic flow. Each sponsor gets two signs constructed on their roundabout which, in total, create an additional 104 roads signs across the borough.
Steve Chelton, from the Insurer Development Team at Swinton, said: "Roundabouts can be difficult to negotiate at the best of times and many drivers are already concerned about the number of signs on our roads. Some drivers many feel that roadside advertisements are an unnecessary distraction."
