Milestone Demonstrates National Acceptance of Carbon-fiber Grid Reinforced Precast Concrete Enclosures and Double Tees

AltusGroup precasters surpassed more than 20 million square feet of CarbonCast on commercial building applications in 2011.

AltusGroup reached an important milestone in 2011 when its national network of 14 precast concrete manufacturers eclipsed 20 million square feet of CarbonCast® surface area installed since the technology’s introduction in 2004. More than 500 structures incorporate award-winning CarbonCast structural and architectural precast concrete enclosures and double tees.

CarbonCast technology uses C-GRID® carbon fiber grid as a shear connector between concrete wythes in enclosures and as reinforcing in the flange of double tees providing greater strength, lower weight and improved durability:

CarbonCast High Performance Insulated Wall Panels provide thermal and moisture protection as load or non-load-bearing exterior walls. Fully structurally composite panels offer continuous insulation to meet ASHRAE codes with hundreds of finish options.

CarbonCast Insulated Architectural Cladding offers weight reductions of about 40% compared to solid, 6” thick precast. Its design is based on the extensively tested CarbonCast High Performance Insulated Wall Panel.

CarbonCast Architectural Cladding is insulating, back-ribbed and up to 50% lighter, for a reduced superstructure and foundation. It offers deep window recesses and other articulations without a weight penalty.

CarbonCast Double Tees use non-corrosive C-GRID in the flange reducing weight up to 8% for a lighter product that offers superior durability, strength and crack control.

The latest applications include 2011 PCI Design Award recipients Indiana University Innovation Center, Bloomington, Ind., and Tucker High School, Tucker, Ga., also a 2012 ACI Award winning building. CarbonCast has also been used on Proximity Hotel, the nation’s first-ever LEED® Platinum lodging establishment and Lucas Oil Stadium, home of the Indianapolis Colts.
