this was a very exciting project to be involved in.... the Silverstone Classic encourages public interest in our engineering industries' future and environmental technologies are intrinsic to automotive innovation. The Carbon-cutter scheme perfectly illustrates how the Silverstone Classic can invest in the future and enjoy the past.

By offsetting the entire 1200 tonne Carbon footprint of the historic Silverstone 2009 Classic Racing event, Carbon-Cutter assisted in achieving the world's first carbon-neutral motor event and paved the way for the future of motorsports.

Carbon Cutter, together with its sister company BuyAWatt, achieved this 'motorsport first' by offering the very latest in carbon offsetting. Different to any other scheme, Carbon Cutter and BuyAWatt work to produce clean, green energy by harnessing the natural power of the sun - whilst also rewarding every individual or business who invests in their growing network of European solar parks by giving a monetary return.*

Ken Prichard Jones, Director of Racing at Silverstone Ltd said "this was a very exciting project to be involved in.... the Silverstone Classic encourages public interest in our engineering industries' future and environmental technologies are intrinsic to automotive innovation. Climate change and environmental damage is a key threat to the future of our planet. The draft Climate Change Bill commits the UK to reductions in CO2 emissions of at least 26% by 2020 and 80% by 2050. Greenpeace argue that the UK alone could sustain over 60% of its energy needs through solar power and both Carbon-Cutter and BuyaWatt are working to implement the widespread use of Carbon free energy.

The Carbon Cutter Solar Parks are among the most advanced of their type - made up of panels containing a series of photovoltaic cells made from a semi-conductor material, usually silicon, which convert light into electricity in a clean and environmentally sound way. Each panel is remotely monitored to ensure continuity of power production and is weather and UV resistant, allowing electricity to be generated in all conditions - unlike wind turbines.

Investors in the FSA approved scheme make a tangible impact on the environment, offset their carbon footprint and see their money returned for doing so.

The Silverstone Classic was the first green motorsport event in the world and signifies the widespread recognition that carbon-offsetting is the future for businesses and individuals alike.
