The Cardboard Robot, currently seeking funding on the popular crowdfunding site Kickstarter, has hired the digital marketing agency Command Partners to lead its marketing campaign.
The open source Cardboard Robot is the brainchild of Ken Ihara who got his first taste of robotics as an assistant at the Harvard Robotics Laboratory in Cambridge, MA. The Cardboard Robot is a robotic arm that allows people to pick up objects or shoot smooth video paths on their smartphone.
With a span of nearly six feet, the Cardboard Robot is big. “It is an industrial-sized robot that costs 1/1000th of the real thing. Another bonus is that it can’t kill you,” Ihara said.
The arm is controlled by the user’s PC or Mac with software that can generate and save specific paths or movements.
The Cardboard Robot has already received attention from major tech blogs including Engadget, CNET and PC World.
“I am excited for the attention Cardboard Robot has received, and I know Command Partners has the experience and dedication to take my campaign to the next level,” Ihara said.
Cardboard Robot’s campaign started July 6th and will end on August 20th. Their funding goal is $10,000 and to date Ihara has raised $6,131 in pledges. The complete Cardboard Robot kit is available for $175. For every $3,000 raised, Ihara will donate a Cardboard Robot to a school in the United States.
