More Families Heading Back to School with Babysitters, Tutors

More families are looking for child care this back-to-school season than they did in 2008, according to a new survey and statistics released today by Care.com.

Waltham, MA (PRWEB) August 26, 2009 -- More families are looking for child care this back-to-school season than they did in 2008, according to a new survey and statistics released today by Care.com. While there is typically a seasonal spike of parents looking for after-school care options for their young children, Care.com has seen a 59 percent increase over last year in the number of families searching for child care this August.

The August back-to-school season is also the time of year when parents begin searching for tutors and private teachers. A new survey of Care.com members shows 25 percent of parents are considering hiring a tutor for their children this fall. As students nationwide pack their backpacks and head back to school, parents are concerned about their grades, achievement and development. They are turning to tutors for assistance with their children's most difficult school subjects or to help continue academic excellence in other areas.

Historically, August is the month where online services that connect families to local tutors see the biggest jump in parents searching for instructors. At Care.com, the number of parents posting jobs looking for a tutor doubles during the back-to-school season.

"For many families, finding a new babysitter or tutor is as much of a part of the back-to-school season as buying a new lunchbox," said Sheila Lirio Marcelo, the founder and CEO of Care.com. "It's always a great idea to get organized for the new school year. That includes updating your list of backup caregivers and babysitters, which you can do at Care.com. With tutoring, parents are looking to start the year off strong. Hiring a tutor, even for just a couple lessons, is a great way to put your child's best foot forward academically."

Care.com is the largest and fastest-growing online service helping families connect to local care providers. The service allows parents to find nearby babysitters and nannies for after-school care, tutors for their children and instructors who give private music, sports, or art lessons. Families looking for an after-school babysitter or a tutor can search by ZIP code, subject material or experience to find the right match for their children's needs.

Care.com also helps families find babysitters, nannies, special needs care, senior home care, pet sitters and housekeepers through a national network of trusted caregivers. Families in need of quality caregivers can search by ZIP code, service and pay rate to find the care providers in their area.
