The records will let people find out how much a commercial vehicle has been used, how many companies have used it, its overall mileage, and approximate retail value.

CarHistory.us.org is now going to offer commercial vehicle records as part of their public documents product line, company officials said yesterday.

“Up until now, we've been primarily about helping people make the right choices when buying their personal vehicles,” a company representative said. “But we've realized that there is also a market for people looking for information about commercial vehicles, so we're now making those records available as well.”

The records will let people find out how much a commercial vehicle has been used, how many companies have used it, its overall mileage, and approximate retail value, the company said.

“One of the big additions will be information about whether or not a car has been part of a rental fleet,” the representative said. “Sometimes used car dealers will try to sell these cars and not mention that they were rentals. That's not good, because rental cars get more wear and tear per mile than cars used as personal vehicles.”

The commercial records will be available from the same search database as the personal vehicle records, the company said.

“It's still just as easy to use,” the representative said. “You simply type in the VIN number for the commercial vehicle, pay a small fee, and get the information you are looking for.”
