Carolyn and Jack discuss a new, intriguing word: anticimoxie. Following its precepts, readers will think ahead and will be more likely to arrive safe at home – to tell more scary stories.

In “PERILS!” (published by Trafford Publishing), the new stories of adventure from Carolyn and Jack Fleming, readers are urged to enjoy each day, savor their experiences, appreciate the people in their lives and take along anticimoxie wherever they go.

“PERILS!” is actually two books in one. In the first book, Carolyn and Jack share a collection of close calls and scary stories drawn from their actual experiences as adventuresome travelers. Danger lurked on the river behind the Taj Mahal. A knife-bearing Sikh came to the rescue. Catching a subway train was almost fatal during a monsoon in Japan. The intrepid couple caught a late-night jetliner, which broke in two as it landed. Seven additional stories about surprising adventures and close calls make for an exciting read!

The second book is a manual for survival and management of serious, emergency problems during travel or at home, such as fainting, choking and chest pain – written by Jack, who is also a cardiologist.

An excerpt from “PERILS!”:

“Suddenly we heard angry yelling and screaming from the shore. We turned to see our turbaned Sihk driver running toward the river bank. He began making wild gestures at our mystery boatman—or were they meant for us? Then we saw a bright flash from the Sikh’s silver dagger. In an ominous move, the Sihk began to twirl his gleaming weapon around his own head. Then he pointed it directly at the boatman, ending with a pantomime of cutting a throat.”
