Too many cats are returned to shelters shortly after adoption because the adoptive families are not aware that cats require a period of transition.
Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) September 26, 2012
981 Media and actress Arloa Reston have released the latest “Cat Chat with Arloa” episode, which is the first of a four part series on adopting a new cat and bringing it home. The episode is available at CatChat.TV. "Cat Chat with Arloa" is devoted to giving humans the necessary information to keep their cats healthy and happy and helping cats in shelters find permanent homes!
Today’s episode kicks off a four part series on new cat adoption. The four episodes will talk about preparations, ways to smoothly transition the new cat into your home, introducing a new cat to an existing cat and dealing with some of the most common new cat problems such as non-use of the litter box, scratching the furniture and anti-social behavior.
According to Arloa, "Too many cats are returned to shelters shortly after adoption because the adoptive families are not aware that cats require a period of transition in order to become comfortable in their new home." Many shelter cats came from traumatic pasts and in new situations, they can become nervous and frightened and can act out in "unacceptable" ways. If adopters learn the basics of cat psychology and can help the cat ease into their new environment, more cats would adapt well resulting in a much lower return rate.
In today's episode, Arloa focuses on the basics of bringing a new cat into your home. Viewers learn what information they need to get from the shelter and what things they should have in place before bringing the cat home. Arloa also discusses the importance of providing the cat with a safe space, how to set it up, and how vital it is to let the cat set the pace with regards to affection and exploration.
In next week's episode, Arloa will discuss the steps involved in introducing a new cat into a household that already has at least one other cat. Cats can be extremely territorial and Cat Chat will explain the best ways to get the existing kitty or kitties to accept the new one.
This week on CatChat.TV, viewers will also be introduced to Wall Cat, a sweet, playful black and white homeless cat looking for his forever home. He is available for adoption through Cat Connection, a cat rescue group in Sherman Oaks, California.
“Cat Chat with Arloa” is an informative yet entertaining series focused on cat health and helping homeless cats fine permanent homes. New episodes are available every Wednesday morning at CatChat.TV. For their top 10 list of Cat Health tips, click here.
