Increase of 1,400 inmates brings valuable careers to area residents

We are very pleased with California’s decision to entrust additional offenders to our care

Corrections Corporation of America (CCA) is creating 217 new jobs at its North Fork Correctional Facility , located in Sayre, Okla., after finalizing a contract with the state of California to house 1,400 more inmates at the prison.

The company recently amended its agreement with the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) to allow for the housing of 2,336 additional offenders from California. Under the terms, additional inmates from the state will be housed at CCA’s North Fork Correctional Facility and Red Rock Correctional Center in Arizona, which increases CCA’s systemwide number of California inmates from 7,900 currently to up to 10,468.

“We are very pleased with California’s decision to entrust additional offenders to our care,” said Damon Hininger, CCA president and chief executive officer.

CCA’s North Fork facility will increase staffing by 217, bringing the number of employees to 529 once all hiring is completed. Hiring will begin immediately for a diverse range of professional-level positions.

“We are really excited that our facility is going be able to offer the community and surrounding areas the opportunity to apply for so many desirable jobs,” said Vicki Hinkle, human resources manager at North Fork.

Career openings are available for academic and vocational instructors, addictions treatment counselors, administrative clerks, case managers, correctional officers, maintenance workers, unit managers and other positions.

“Effectively and safely running a prison is like operating a small town,” said North Fork warden Fred Figueroa. “It requires a range of specialties, and I believe many hardworking Oklahomans will welcome these recession-resistant opportunities, especially during these challenging economic times. The impact to Western Oklahoma’s job market and economy will be tremendous.”

CCA’s offers its national work force of 17,500 competitive salaries and comprehensive benefits, including company-paid training, paid time off, medical and dental insurance, short- and long-term disability insurance, a 401 (k) retirement savings plan and more.
