It is our mission to provide these property owners with the full and fair value they deserve for telecoms' use of their land and our success is fostering change in the telecom industry.

According to the Federal Communications Commission, Hurricane Sandy’s recent storm took out 25% of cell towers across 10 states and 158 counties. While only a small number of emergency calls have failed, as indicated by the FCC, this outage has disrupted 911 service, forcing calls to be rerouted. According to the FCC Chairman, Julius Genachowski, “communication outages could get worse before they get better, particularly for mobile networks.”
In times of emergency, wireless consumers are heavily reliant on sustainable mobile networks and the service they provide. Genechowski is urging cell phone consumers to use other means of communication such as social media and emailing or texting rather than utilizing voice calls to relieve the strain of the networks. By doing this, it will keep the networks less congested for priority calls, according to the Wall Street Journal.
The recent occurrences involving the cell tower outages provide evidence of the nation’s dependence on cell phone and wireless connectivity. With the demand for wireless connectivity comes a need for sites conducive to cell tower placement and property owners willing to allow this placement to occur on their land. While demand for mobile rises, the value of cell tower property owners’ land and corresponding cell tower lease s rise as well, under basic supply and demand economics. Although this principle exists, property owners leasing their land to telecom companies are often underpaid for telecoms’ use of their land.
Vertical Consultants, a Nashville, Tennessee based telecom consulting firm, is an advocate for property owners leasing their land to telecom companies and cell tower developers. Vertical Consultants, on average, increases property owners cell tower rent by 98% and has, in just over one year, recovered over 100 years’ worth of unpaid cell tower rent and expenses, collectively. These statistics further validate the wide disparities existing between property owners and the telecom giants.
Advances in technology, network expansions, and most recently, severe weather conditions, highlight the need for mobile connectivity and the importance of land secured for cell tower placement. Without property owners’ willing to lease a portion of their land to telecom companies and cell tower developers, wireless customers would be left with little to no sustainable connectivity.
Hugh Odom, President and Founder of Vertical Consultants states, "The reaction and aftermath of Hurricane Sandy's effect on cell towers in the northeast is a prime example of how we all rely on wireless service and spotlights the need and importance of land for cell towers. Often, wireless consumers consider cell phone towers an afterthought, until something of this magnitude happens, proving we not only need wireless service, but we need property owners who are willing to house cell towers on their land. It is our mission to provide these property owners with the full and fair value they deserve for telecoms' use of their land and our success is fostering change in the telecom industry."
