In February 2013 Wake Technical Community College, with support from the SunTrust Foundation, has launched a financial literacy campaign. The “SunTrust Foundation Center for Financial Education at Wake Technical Community College” has officially opened for its first semester. The Center’s mission is to combat the financial illiteracy problems that affect not only students on campus, but citizens all across the state.

The Center of Financial Education’s stated objectives are to provide students, staff, and the community with real-world personal financial skills so they may live more rewarding lives. The campaign’s inaugural semester will deliver more than 15 events, provide access to an online learning center, and host campus-wide promotions to raise awareness about financial literacy and Center resources.

Wake Tech partnered with the National Financial Educators Council to develop this comprehensive financial literacy campaign, which employs various workshops, promotions, multiple touchpoints, and modern marketing techniques to reach a wide audience. Results are being gathered from surveys, testing, and student data throughout the first semester of the initiative to inform future programming that will be custom-designed to audience needs.

Wake Technical Community College is fully committed to designing a comprehensive financial education initiative for prospective students, current students, staff, and faculty. The planning, implementation and assessment of the financial literacy program is a collaborative effort between Wake Tech’s administration, Foundation Office, GED/ABE Programs, Student Activities Office, Financial Aid Office, Promotions & Marketing and Curriculum Education Services. The college is dedicated to providing this holistic financial education initiative in order to increase financial literacy and allow participants to achieve financial freedom and empowerment.
