The Wales Institute for Sustainable Education will host a media open day on the 8th of June, 1-4 p.m. at the Centre for Alternative Technology, Machynlleth, SY20 9AZ.

WISE is the Centre for Alternative Technology's new eco-educational facility

The WISE project is an important step, helping to deliver the training and skills Britain will need to meet our energy challenges.

The Wales Institute for Sustainable Education will host a Media Open Day on the 8th of June, 1-4 p.m. at the Centre for Alternative Technology , Machynlleth, SY20 9AZ.

The Wales Institute for Sustainable Education at the Centre for Alternative Technology is a ground breaking sustainable building demonstrating the latest techniques in green design and construction. The new building will host an extensive programme of courses in renewable energy, green architecture and sustainable land use.

Key sustainability features of the building:

  • pillars constructed from rammed earth
  • walls made from hemp and lime
  • power from solar water heating, solar electric and wood
  • passive solar design maximising natural light and heat
  • sustainably sourced, local timber

The Wales Institute for Sustainable Education has a 200 seat circular lecture theatre, 4 workshops, offices and accommodation for 50 people.

Interviews and guided tours

  • Interviews will be available with the architects, engineers and project managers of the new building
  • Interviews will be available with lecturers and teaching staff who will be using the WISE building
  • Guided tours of building will take place - covering all aspects of the building, sustainability features and energy systems
