Washington, DC (PRWEB) June 03, 2013
Selected members of the Crowdfund Intermediary Regulatory Advocates (CFIRA), a leading crowdfunding organization that works with the Securities & Exchange Commission (SEC) and the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA) to establish industry guidelines and standards, have been invited to attend the Champions of Change ceremony hosted by the White House on Tuesday, June 4, 2013.
The Champions of Change program shares the stories of everyday people that have strengthened their communities through hard work and innovation. Every week, they are invited by the White House to share their insights and stories. This week’s event will honor entrepreneurs who exemplify the promise of crowdfunding to fuel economic growth and community empowerment through innovative crowdfunding projects across the country.
"We are pleased that the White House has chosen to honor crowdfunding industry participants as 'Champions of Change,’” said Chris Tyrrell, Chairman of CFIRA and Managing Director of Nehemiah Investments. “CFIRA's members have dedicated themselves to advocate for the regulatory change and industry preparations necessary to bring about a new revolution in securities-based crowdfunding. We are thankful for the White House's engagement on these issues."
Crowdfunding has seen explosive growth worldwide in recent years, growing more than 81 percent in 2012 according to a Massolution industry report. Entrepreneurs, non-profits and individuals are able to leverage their social networks to impact meaningful change in their communities and jumpstart innovation. Equity-based crowdfunding was legalized by last year’s bipartisan Jumpstart Our Business Startups (JOBS) Act and signed into law by the President in April 2012. The legislation will enable entrepreneurs to use crowdfunding to raise equity online, a potentially revolutionizing force in the capital markets.
