CGSM, a direct and digital marketing agency with offices in Wilton, CT and New York City, has been announced as a 2011 winner of the prestigious DMA Innovation Award from the DMA (Direct Marketing Association) in the Brand, Social and Content Marketing category. The agency, which is privately owned, managed to edge out many well-known digital agencies from around the country, and is one of only seven Innovation Award winners this year.
CGSM’s winning entry, titled “Holiday Hash,” was a Twitter-based campaign that invited clients, colleagues and extended networks to Tweet glad tidings during the holidays. Glad tidings included well wishes, shoutouts, recipes and other status updates that were holiday-related. “We really wanted to do something environmentally responsible, and using the online platform allowed us to stretch out and think differently,” said Mark Kolier, president of CGSM.
The program also embraced cause marketing, as the campaign rewarded the top two Tweeters with a small but generous donation to the charity of their choice. “Tying the involvement back to a potential donation to a charity was a key element,” explained EVP and Creative Director Nader Ashway. “In a generous way, it kept people coming back to the program, tweeting more, and overall it gave the program some gravity.”
The DMA Innovation Awards, co-sponsored by Google and Canoe Ventures, recognize the innovative advances being made in marketing technology. Innovation can be in the form of new-to-market offers, standing solutions addressing complex business problems, market-leading solutions, or a new approach that improves the efficiency or effectiveness of the programs. Winners are selected by a distinguished panel of judges.
“The proliferation of leading-edge solutions and technologies has made this the toughest year of selections in the three years since the program started,” said Bruce Biegel, managing director, Winterberry Group, and an Innovation Awards judge. “We are extremely proud of the winners, as I know their solutions will be the new game changing moments in marketing technology.”
The Awards will be given out October 2nd at the opening of DMA’s national conference in Boston. CGSM will join the six other award winners at a reception at Copley Place. The agency plans to expand the program this year to more recipients, and extend the program to include the Thanksgiving holiday.
