We are also very excited to be part of a National Stein Holding Competition sponsored by Samuel Adams. These contests are held in Beer Halls throughout the United States and in Europe
Campbell, CA (PRWEB) September 10, 2011
Campbell Chamber of Commerce will be holding Oktoberfest on Oct. 15 and Oct. 16 in Historic Downtown Campbell. To give people an authentic European experience, the annual Oktoberfest will showcase mouthwatering, savory German cuisine, a fantastic variety of beers, more than 100 artisans from all over the country and an impressive line-up of entertainment, including headliners AlpinersUSA.
The original “Oktoberfest” occurred in Munich on Oct. 18, 1810 to commemorate the marriage of Crown Prince Ludwig and Princess Therese of Saxe-Hildburghausen through horse races. The horse races became an annual event and were combined with the state agricultural fair the following year. It was not until 1818 that booths serving food and drink were set up at the event. In the late 1800s, the booths were replaced with large beer halls or tents, which are still set up today.
“Our entertainment lineup will once again be headed up by Alpiners USA,” states Neil Collins, CEO of Campbell Chamber of Commerce. “They will be performing on the East end of town near Ainsley Park. Our West End stage will be loaded with a cornucopia of local bands. We are also very excited to be part of a National Stein Holding Competition sponsored by Samuel Adams. These contests are held in Beer Halls throughout the United States and in Europe. While not the most athletic contest, spectators will love the good natured heckling of the MC as he tries to distract the contestants just long enough that they lose their concentration and lower their stein.”
In keeping with tradition, Campbell's Oktoberfest serves a variety of authentic German flavors like Bratwurst, sauerkraut, pretzels, German potato salads, and an assortment of beers and ale. Sausage lovers will have more varieties than ever to choose from. They will have food from Bavarian Bratwurst, Teskes Germania, Little Hofbrau, Lockeford Sausage, and Big Ed’s Buzzard BBQ to name just a few.
To add to the Germanic atmosphere, headliners AlpinersUSA will provide music from regions of the Alps such as Bavaria, Austria, Switzerland, Italy, and neighboring countries Hungary, Slovenia, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Russia and Scandinavia.
“This is a great festival to get dressed up for,” added Collins. “You will see more wool knickers than you will know what to do with.”
Festival hours are from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Oct. 15 and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Oct. 16. Campbell Chamber of Commerce can be contacted at 408-378-6252 or http://www.campbellchamber.net/oktoberfest.html.
