Charity Concert at Children's Specialized Hospital; New Jersey Cello Teacher and Director of the New Horizon Symphony Orchestra Performs for Long Term Care Unit

Music as a healing art for all ages: Cellist Elizabeth Kalfayan, director of the New Horizon Symphony Orchestra will be performing a charity concert for children in the Long Term Care Unit at the Children's Specialized Hospital in Mountainside, New Jersey, on November 13, 2011.

The energy of love through musical sound inspires audiences of all ages

Elizabeth Kalfayan is a soloist and cello teacher in Oradell, New Jersey. Her interactive programs create lasting impressions, through heartfelt performances that connect audiences with the emotions encoded in the works of the great composers.

As a result of heartfelt bonds created through music, Ms. Kalfayan is joined by her former cello student Bryan Wilson and cellist Barry Kornhauser to donate this performance on November 13, 2011. The New Horizon Symphony Orchestra, created by Director Elizabeth Kalfayan, is dedicated to promoting classical music and healing communities through fund raising and educational programs.

Also on the performance schedule is a String Quartet Concert at the Teaneck Library in Teaneck, New Jersey on December 4, 2011. Elizabeth Kalfayan and musicians of the New Horizon Symphony Orchestra will include works by Beethoven, Dvorak, and H.T. Burleigh.

Additional information:
Elizabeth Kalfayan holds a Bachelor and Master of Music degree from the Manhattan School of Music and is a certified public school teacher.

Members of the New Horizon Symphony Orchestra also perform as the Harmonia Chamber Players with Darla Coolman/Bass, Ana Kouyoumdjian/Soprano, and Elizabeth Kalfayan/Cello.

This unique formation of Bass, Cello and Soprano, with Ms. Kalfayan's original compositions for the group have expanded the repertoire and the role of the String Bass in Chamber Music. The Harmonia Chamber Players is a dynamic group of highly skilled classical musicians who bring a variety of innovative and exciting presentations to the public. They perform a diverse array of engaging, interactive programs including:

“Tango Tango Tango!”
This interactive program features soprano Ana Kouyoumdjian and the Harmonia Chamber Players as they explore the passionate and exhilarating art form of the Tango. Music by D’Anzi, Grever, Bottea, Serafin, Scheletti and Bizet will be presented.

“The Joy of Music - A Musical Journey for Young Audiences”
This fun and educational program takes the young listener on an exciting musical journey where they can experience the feelings and emotions behind the musical notes written by our great composers. Young audiences come away with a greater appreciation of classical music and the joy it can bring to their lives.    

“Spanning the Full Gamut - The Art of the Duo”
The Harmonia Chamber Players explore the varied landscape of the classical string duo, incorporating the music of Telemann, Mozart, Haydn, Rossini, Beethoven and Handel.

“Love Through the Ages”
Soprano Ana Kouyoumdjian joins the Harmonia Chamber Players in this program which features the delightful and lyrical arias and songs of Haydn, Mozart, Grever, Donizetti, D’Anzi, and Kalfayan.

“The Romantic Cello”
This program features renowned cellist Elizabeth Kalfayan as she performs works by the great Romantic composers Ludwig van Beethoven, Robert Schumann, Antonin Dvorak, and Edward Elgar.

"The Soul of Russian Composers"
A program with insights of how the life and emotions of Russian composers are expressed in their musical works.

“Vive La France! – The French Cello”
Elizabeth Kalfayan takes the listener on a romantic journey through the French countryside as she performs works by the great French composers Gabriel Faure, Camille Saint-Saens, Claude Debussy, Marin Marais, and Francis Poulenc.

“The Sonata That Was Their Lives” Lecture Concerts
Cellist Elizabeth Kalfayan takes the audience on a journey of the heart as she explores the lives and music of the great composers for the Violoncello, including Schumann, Beethoven, Rachmaninoff and Shostakovich.

The New Horizon Symphony Orchestra and the Harmonia Chamber Players are available for charity functions, private events, formal concert productions and educational programs.
