Bright Lights Business applauds Chenery Park for welcoming young children into their restaurant and teaching proper table manners.

In a day in age where families rush around to and fro from one event to the next activity and where dinners are rushed chaos, typically with the television on, BLB feels it is nice to see a return to the value of family dining. The New York Times in their article Eat, Drink, Be Nice, reported on a restaurant that welcomes families to dine with their young children. The restaurant, Chenery Park, helps children learn the etiquette of formal dining and how to behave at the dinner table. Bright Light Business praises Chenery Park for their etiquette initiative.

BLB appreciates what Chenery Park is doing for our youth because they are also the diners of the future. On Tuesday evenings the restaurant holds Kids Club and invites families to dine in an environment where kids can learn the proper way to order, eat and behave in a nice restaurant and parents can relax knowing that most diners are going through the same steps.

There are several companies that also take on the challenge of teaching manners to the younger generation. A New York based company, Social Sklz, is a group that teaches all kinds of social skills including a one hour mealtime manners class. But, BLB would like to see some of the best high end restaurants follow the lead of Chenery Park. Restaurants can choose a less busy night or off peak time if necessary to accommodate the families. BLB could see entrepreneurs like Mark Birnbaum and the EMM Group using this idea to benefit both their restaurants and their community.

Bright Lights Business supports the efforts of restaurants like Chenery Park for their efforts in training our youth in proper etiquette and puts out a call to action for more restaurants and families to follow suit.
