Many people who qualify for SSD don’t understand the rules and regulations. Unfortunately, because of this, they may go without benefits they need and deserve.
Chicago, IL (PRWEB) November 09, 2012
Chicago Social Security disability benefits lawyer Larry Disparti said today that COPD Awareness Month in November is a good time for victims of the disease and their families to learn more about the availability of benefits to help them cope with chronic respiratory diseases.
“COPD is one of several respiratory diseases that the Social Security Disability program specifically lists as a qualification for benefits,” said Disparti, founder of the Disparti Law Group, a Social Security disability benefits law firm with offices in Illinois as well as Florida.
“Many people who qualify for SSD don’t understand the rules and regulations. Unfortunately, because of this, they may go without benefits they need and deserve,” Disparti said.
Disparti said that Social Security disability lawyers can help applicants to compile personal, occupational and medical documentation that the Social Security Administration (SSA) requires to demonstrate that they meet stringent definitions of “disabled.”
These attorneys can also represent applicants at hearings connected to Social Security Disability (SSD) benefits applications and appeals, Disparti said.
“Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease,” or COPD, is a general term for several lung diseases, including bronchitis and emphysema. Shortness of breath caused by severe COPD can result in the inability to work for a living or to perform such basic life functions as washing, dressing or walking any distance.
More than 12 million people are diagnosed with COPD and an additional 12 million likely have the disease and don’t even know it, according to the National Heart Lung and Blood Institute. The disease causes serious, long-term disability, and kills more than 120,000 Americans each year, which makes it the third-leading cause of death in the United States, the NHLBI says.
The U.S. COPD Coalition sponsors National COPD Awareness Month in November to help organizations and communities across the country increase the overall awareness of COPD.
Disparti’s firm helps Illinois residents obtain Social Security Disability (SSD), Supplemental Security Income (SSI), Railroad Retirement Board disability and other governmental disability benefits.
The veteran attorney said COPD is most often linked to smoking but can also be caused by occupational exposure to the fumes of toxic chemicals.
“Regardless of the cause, lung damage that curtails your quality of life and keeps you from working for a living is a compensable disability,” the veteran Social Security disability benefits attorney said. “We believe that injured Illinois residents who qualify for benefits should be made aware of the assistance due to them and should get the help they need to obtain them.”
A Disparti Law Group SSD attorney can help, the firm’s founder added.
“We know Social Security Disability rules and regulations, and we know our way through the bureaucracy and red tape,” he said. “We can help applicants to avoid common roadblocks and make sure their claim is handled in as timely of a manner as a possible.”
