My office is firmly committed to obtaining substantial compensation for Fritzie and Cameron Burkett for the loss of their beautiful son and to do everything possible to make sure something like this never happens again.
Chicago, IL (Vocus/PRWEB) April 15, 2011
Chicago medical malpractice lawyer Patrick A. Salvi said today that his law firm is seeking compensation for parents who allege their prematurely born son died at a Park Ridge hospital after receiving a lethal dose of sodium in his IV nutrient bag.
Salvi, along with attorneys Sarah A. Ferrill and Sarah Kwasigroch of the Chicago medical malpractice law firm of Salvi, Schostok & Pritchard P.C., filed a wrongful death and negligence lawsuit against Advocate Lutheran General Hospital on April 5 in Cook County Circuit Court on behalf of the infant’s parents, Fritzie and Cameron Burkett (Burkett v. Advocate Health and Hospitals Corporation d/b/a Advocate Lutheran General Hospital; Cook County Circuit Court Case No. 11L003535).
“Genesis Burkett should be a happy and healthy 6-month-old boy at home with his family today,” said Salvi, a leading Illinois medical malpractice attorney who focuses on birth injuries. “My office is firmly committed to obtaining substantial compensation for Fritzie and Cameron Burkett for the loss of their beautiful son and to do everything possible to make sure something like this never happens again.”
The lawsuit alleges that the infant, Genesis Burkett, was born on September 6, 2010, at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital. Forty days later, he went into cardiac arrest and died as a result of an excessive sodium dosage in an IV solution that was administered to him, claims the lawsuit, which also asserts a survival / negligence action on behalf of Genesis.
According to Chicago’s ABC 7 News, Lutheran General released a statement April 5, saying the event had “heightened our focus on patient safety” and that “comprehensive steps” had been taken across the Advocate healthcare system to ensure similar errors do not occur in the future. “Our prayers continue to be with the family,” the statement said.
Fritzie Burkett told CBS 2 TV that the experience has been a “nightmare,” but she was not pursuing the wrongful death and negligence lawsuit against Lutheran General out of anger.
“It’s more just hoping that no other baby has to go and experience this again,” she said.
