Chicago personal injury lawyers Patrick A. Salvi and Patrick A. Salvi, II, received a Jury Verdict Reporter’s 2012 “Trial Lawyer Excellence Award” on October 17 in recognition of their work in securing the largest jury verdict in Lake County history.
In their first jury trial together, the father-son legal team from the Chicago personal injury firm of Salvi, Schostok & Pritchard P.C. secured a $33.2 million verdict in Lake County Circuit Court in March 2009 on behalf of a teenager who had been paralyzed in a drunk-driving car accident. (Baldwin v. Klairmont; 07-L-105).
The victim had been the passenger in a vehicle driven by an alcohol-impaired driver. The trial was only on damages as the driver had admitted fault.
According to The Jury Verdict Reporter (Law Bulletin Publishing Company), the verdict exceeded the previous highest Lake County verdict by nearly $10 million.
On October 17, The Jury Verdict Reporter honored the two attorneys for their work on the case during the legal publication’s annual awards ceremony at Chicago’s InterContinental Hotel.

“We are also very thankful that our work helped our client to obtain a verdict that will take care of his medical needs for the rest of his life so that he can live as full of a life as possible in the face of his physical disabilities,” Salvi, II, added.
At the 2011 awards ceremony, the elder Salvi, also a University of Notre Dame Law School alum and the managing equity partner of Salvi Schostok & Pritchard P.C., had received The Jury Verdict Reporter’s Career Achievement Award.
Earlier this month, Salvi, II, was recognized by Chicago Lawyer magazine for his work in securing a $22.6 million settlement in the birth injury case of Arroyo, et al. v. United States of America, which had been litigated in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois. (No. 1:07-cv-04912). Salvi, II, worked on the case with the firm’s equity partner, David J. Pritchard.
The settlement placed among the top settlements in the state in Chicago Lawyer’s 2012 Settlement Survey.
According to the magazine, Salvi Schostok & Pritchard P.C. also was one of only six law firms to report settlements totaling $25 million or more in the 2012 survey. The firm recovered a total of $46.51 million in five cases, which gave the firm the highest settlement amount per case ($9.3 million) out of the six firms listed by the magazine.
