Every surgery has scars and a short scar facelift is no exception!

Dr Sam Speron reveals that face lifts are a great procedure to consider when anyone wants to reverse the aging process and achieve a fresher look. A traditional face lift will reposition and tighten the skin and soft tissues of the face while reducing signs of aging in the face and the neck. A short scare face lift is designed to accomplish the same effect but with minimal incisions and scarring and less down-time.

During the short scar face lift procedure, the internal soft tissue structures are usually adjusted separately from the skin that covers them. Any aging areas of concern are carefully repositioned, including the skin, fat and muscles. The SMAS membrane is also tightened and the skin is repositioned while any excess skin is removed.

“The short scar face lift procedure is great for accomplishing a more youthful appearance without worrying as much about visible scarring” says Dr. Sam Speron, Chicago facial plastic surgery expert and consumer advocate. “It continues to be very popular especially when paired with fat injections, Botox and eyelid or midface lifting surgery. The most common complications or facelift stigmata are an abnormal elevation of sideburn hair, a pixie earlobe deformity and scarring behind the ear that prevents wearing the hair up or in a ponytail. A short scar facelifft is able to avoid all three of these major problems associated with a traditional facelift! However, one of the most bothersome and unethical things I see is false advertising claiming that there are no scars. This is simply not true. Every surgery has scars and a short scar facelift is no exception!”

The incisions for the short scar procedure begin in the temporal hair region and go down in front of the earlobe. A short scar face lift procedure takes 1 to 2 hours and there is a 3-7 day recovery period. Compared to a traditional face lift, there is less bruising and swelling experienced after surgery.

Dr. Speron is the founder and medical director of Dr. Speron Plastic Surgery, SC. He is board certified with the American Board of Plastic Surgery and an active member of both the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) and American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (ASAPS).
