Chicago, IL (PRWEB) June 18, 2014
The innovative iOS app "Selfie" showed off its new feature #ThemeOfTheDay to Illinois Governor Pat Quinn at 1871, a Chicago-based tech incubator. Selfie aims to revolutionize the Social Media landscape with their app by uniting individuals with common themes on a global scale. The most recent theme was #PayItForward, which encouraged people to do something kind for somebody they don’t know. Governor Quinn chatted with the group and posed for a team #Selfie.
The Selfie team works out of 1871, a shared workspace located in Chicago’s famous Merchandise Mart. The space was named for the year of the Great Chicago Fire. The name is not representative of the destruction that occurred but rather what emerged after the fire. The founding of 1871 has created over 1000 jobs in Chicago and now the Governor has pledged $2.5 million in State funds to expand the tech incubator by 25,000 square feet.
When asked what it’s like to meet the Governor the Selfie team said, “It was a great experience. Having Gov. Pat Quinn validate everything you are working so hard for really reinforces that we are on the right track.” Chicago is making a serious push to become the Silicon Valley of the 21st century, and start-ups like Selfie are making it a reality.
