Medina, OH (PRWEB) July 06, 2011
Foundations®, the largest U.S. supplier of commercial cribs for child care centers and hotels, is pleased to announce that all hotel and child care cribs manufactured are compliant with the new CPSC standards.
The new crib safety standards 16 CFR 1219 and 16 CFR 1220, published on December 28, 2010, are mandatory safety standards for wood and metal full-size and non-full-size cribs. As of June 28, 2011, it is no longer permitted for cribs that are not compliant with these mandatory standards to be sold through any distribution channel. However, child care facilities, hotels and crib rental companies can still use non-compliant cribs they currently possess until December 28, 2012.
“The new federal crib safety standards reduce crib-related hazards and give parents confidence in the safety of cribs at child care centers and hotels. These standards are consistent with the Foundations commitment to providing safe and quality products,” says Foundations president Joe Lawlor.
The new standards include the elimination of drop-sides, enhanced structural integrity of crib slats, more severe vertical impact testing, elimination of wood screws, reduction of toe hold exposure and improved labeling.
With the safety standards come a few stipulations. For church child care centers, the CPSC staff has published a statement saying that if a church owns or operates a child care facility and pays employees to care for children, then the crib safety standards apply. However, if the child care facility is run by volunteers, then this arrangement is not covered by the crib rule.
The CPSC crib safety standards ultimately mean that all public use, non-compliant cribs currently in circulation will have to be replaced with cribs that have been tested and certified by 3rd party government approved labs.
