The Convention and Exhibition Services industry in China is expected to generate $3.49 billion in 2013, says IBISWorld. Over the past five years, industry revenue has been growing at an annualized rate of 9.0%.

IBISWorld anticipates that about 5,200 conventions and exhibitions will be put on by the industry in 2013. Strong domestic demand for convention and exhibition services has stemmed from the growing Chinese economy and high levels of international trade. Major international events such as the 2008 Beijing Olympics and the 2010 World Expo in Shanghai have also supported industry growth.

Revenue of the top four participants in the Convention and Exhibition Services industry in China , China Foreign Trade Center, China International Exhibition Center Group Corporation, Chine New International Expo Center, and Shanghai International Convention & Exhibition, accounts for about 26.6% of total industry revenue in 2013, according to IBISWorld. Companies in Beijing, Shanghai and Guangdong province contribute the most to industry revenue due to the higher economic levels in these areas.

Strong future growth is expected in the next few years, with the total number of conventions and exhibitions much higher than in many developed countries, says IBISWorld. However, the quality of these conventions and exhibitions is often relatively low, with similar themes repeated, which negatively influences the industry. The number of conventions and exhibitions held by the government is set to decline in the following years, with conventions for professional services accounting for a larger share of the market.
