Large numbers of salons and outlets are small in scale, providing basic services such as haircuts and the curling, straightening and dyeing of hair. Most are not registered in official company lists as they are too small and the registration laws are not strict. Almost all companies that provide non-store haircut services are unregistered.

With steady increase of people's disposable income and consumption level, people will spend more on beauty service in the coming years. In the five years through 2016, revenue of this industry is expected to increase at an annualized growth rate of 6.7%, totaling a forecast $1.18 billion in 2016.
