“Don’t just do cardio,” he adds. “You always have to be actively building new muscle. This will boost your metabolism and keep you burning calories outside the gym. “However, weights don’t work for every part of the stomach. I also always tell my clients to avoid using weights for their obliques,” Sam explains. “People always do side bends with weight, but that’s not where you want to build up. Whether it’s fat or muscle, bulk in that area just isn’t pretty. Instead, you want to build a nice trim waist.”

“Stay motivated with your conditioning program by doing bodybuilding contests. Just knowing that you’ll be up there, on stage, in front of everyone is extremely motivating,” Sam says, adding that he continues to stay motivated by working in the fitness industry.
