GodCast1000.com is the largest Christian Podcasting Directory with over 600 podcasts with categories including Christian music, church sermons, Bible and video podcasts. Created by Christian.com - the web portal for the Christian community.

Christian.com™ announced today the official launch of GodCast1000.com, a new website which debuts as the largest podcast directory on the Internet dedicated solely to Christian podcasts.

“Godcasts” are one of the fastest-growing genre’s of podcasting, which has become more mainstream as millions of digital audio files are downloaded from the Internet to computers and portable MP3 players. Apple’s iPod is the most popular MP3 player, with over 58 million sold to date.

“Religious believers want more “God on their iPod,”, and churches are rapidly finding that through podcasting, church members can take the Sunday sermon with them throughout the week,” said Lee Raney, president of Christian.com.

GodCast1000.com ranks the top Christian podcasts by categories, such as church sermons, Christian music, and Bible study. The largest category is sermons, and over 150 church sermon podcasts can be found and subscribed to for free on the site.

The newest trend in podcasting is video podcasting, also called “vidcasts” or “video blogs.” The top video podcast on GodCast1000.com is CyberPastor.com, a daily video devotional by Pastor Andrae Bailey.

“I was driving down the road one day and realized there was a church on almost every corner,” explains Pastor Bailey, “but when I looked at the Internet, people had very limited spiritual resources to choose from.” So Pastor Bailey took his ministry outside of the traditional church, and focused completely on a video podcast to reach the masses.

Traditional churches are flocking to podcasting, too. While only a few mega-churches can afford to preach their message to the world through TV and radio broadcasting, almost any church can have a podcast that goes around the world. The top overall podcast on GodCast1000.com is Pastor David Legge in Northern Ireland, and visitors to the directory in the first few weeks have come from 31 countries including China, Germany, Australia, South Africa, India and Singapore.

Recognizing the growing number of churches beginning to podcast, Christian.com is also launching a new service called SermonCast, which helps churches convert audio tapes and CDs to podcasts.

“With SermonCast.com, we can help pastors and youth pastors turn their sermons into podcasts without the technology hassles, so they can focus on their message and ministry,” Raney said.

GodCast1000.com first went on-line in July, and now includes over 600 godcasts to choose from. Each godcast can be subscribed to for free on the site.

The term “godcast” was coined in 2004 by Craig Patchett, founder of the The Godcast Network (GodCast.org). Even though a “godcast” could be a podcast of any religion, Godcast1000.com is focused on the Christian faith, with podcasts from Catholic, Protestant, Evangelical, Lutheran and Pentecostal Christians on a variety of topics and from around the world.

GodCast1000.com and SermonCast.com are services of Christian.com Media Group, Inc. The Dallas-based company owns and operates Christian.com, a web portal featuring news, e-mail, and Bible content for the Christian community, and other websites as part of the Christian Web Network™.
