1 in 4 self-proclaimed Christians admit they don’t live the teachings of Jesus Christ. We're trying to change that.
Plano, TX (PRWEB) December 03, 2012
Changing the Face of Christianity Inc reports on the state of Christianity. The organization recently published results of a Christianity Quiz; scoring how well Christians live the teachings of Jesus Christ. E.g. The quiz answers the question: "How Christian Are You?"
Answer 10 multiple-choice questions and the quiz returns a score, indicating how well the person lives up to the Christian ideal as modeled by Jesus Christ. The results indicate if a Christian is "Far from Christ", a "Worldly Christian", a "Good Christian", or a "Spiritually Mature Christian".
Over a 22 month period, from January 2011 through October 2012, Changing the Face of Christianity collected 8,475 responses to their Christianity Quiz. Here is a summary of the results:
Far from Christ 3.6%
Worldly Christian 24.8%
Good Christian 38.1%
Spiritually Mature Christian 33.5%
R. Brad White, the founder of Changing the Face of Christianity Inc, a 501(c)3 non-profit, says "When considering what this means for Christianity, the results are disturbing, as 1 in 4 self-proclaimed Christians admit they rarely live the teachings of Jesus Christ. Our mission is to reverse negative Christian stereotypes by helping Christians become more like Jesus Christ. And so, the goal is to assist local churches in transforming these unChristians into spiritually mature Christians who walk the walk, and better represent the Christian faith to the world."
R. Brad White says, "33.5 % of the Christians surveyed consistently live their faith. These are spiritually mature Christians, having experienced Christian transformation, that represent Jesus Christ well through their words and actions. These Christians engage with the world in a positive and loving way and truly bring Glory to God."
The quiz results show 38.1% of Christians are "Good" Christians. R. Brad White says, "A significant majority of Christians consistently live their faith. These Christians take their faith seriously and are striving daily to live as good Christians. These Christians-in-Training aren't perfect, but are striving to consistently practice their faith. These Christians are at the tipping point and very close to becoming spiritually mature. This is incredibly promising. But there is also a risk that many of them will go the other way. Changing the Face of Christianity seeks to help move these folks into spiritual maturity through our Bible study on negative Christian stereotypes and mentoring/discipleship programs."
The quiz results show 24.8% of Christians are worldly. R. Brad White says, "This means they are mostly Christian in name only. These are people that you would probably be surprised to find are Christian if it weren't for the cross around their neck. Changing the Face of Christianity is here to walk along side them, love them, educate them, mentor and disciple them, and guide them into living their faith through their words and actions."
The quiz results show 3.6% of Christians are far from Christ. R. Brad White says, "About 3% of self-proclaimed Christians aren't even trying to live as Christians. These are people who are often born into the faith who have never made a conscious, personal decision to be a disciple of Jesus Christ. They may call themselves Christian, but they are far from it. They likely aren't part of a Christian community and rarely fellowship with other Christian believers. In their hearts, they are not in a relationship with Jesus Christ. The challenge is finding these folks, connecting with them, and helping them get into the game. And for those that are interested, we want to pair them up with spiritually mature Christians to disciple them into a deep and meaningful walk with God."
"So, when assessing the state of Christianity, it's a mixed bag. Christians have a growing negative perception, but it appears that much of that negative perception is being caused by a minority of Christians. That's unfortunate, but something Changing the Face of Christianity is working to improve. We aren't trying to simply change perceptions out there. We are working to help these worldly Christians become more loving and spiritually mature in the Christian faith.", says R. Brad White.
