Make Mother’s Day weekend extra special and invite the entire family to participate in a fun, healthy, beneficial event for all to enjoy. Team up with family, friends, neighbors and co-workers at 8 a.m. on Saturday, May 11, for the Fifth Annual Chula Vista Community Fun Run, a family-friendly, 5K (3.1 mile) course through the Olympic Village at the scenic Olympic Training Center, 2800 Olympic Parkway in Chula Vista. Participants can walk, stroll or run the course as well as have an opportunity to meet Olympians and Olympic hopefuls.
The Fun Run is sponsored by the City of Chula Vista Recreation Department, the non-profit Friends of Chula Vista Parks and Recreation and site host Chula Vista Olympic Training Center and is made possible by generous donations from this year’s title sponsor, SeaWorld’s Aquatica (formerly Knott’s Soak City). Other sponsors include Kaiser Permanente SC Region and Baldwin & Sons. Proceeds from the Fun Run benefit the Friends of Chula Vista Parks and Recreation to help support Chula Vista’s Recreation programs and services.
The Chula Vista Police Activities League (PAL) will also be conducting a pancake breakfast fundraiser to support its student scholarship program. A community expo and celebration with food, fun and music will follow the race.
Early-bird registration is available now through April 26. Registration per family with up to six members is just $55 and teams of up to 20 members are $200. Individuals may also register for $25. All participants receive a commemorative T-shirt with a new logo and free entrance to the expo. Dogs on leashes and strollers are welcome. Registration fees increase after April 26.
Register online or by mailing the registration form, available at all city recreation facilities, to Salt Creek Community Center, 2710 Otay Lakes Rd., Chula Vista, CA 91915.
