It's a fantastic time to be involved in tourism in Canada. Being positioned in Manitoba, with its incredibly healthy polar bear population, provides us with the best ecotourism opportunities in the Northern hemisphere.

Churchill Wild, the Canadian pioneer of the world's first and only ground-level polar bear safaris based out of remote luxury eco-lodges on the Hudson Bay coast, is proud to announce that they were the recipient of the Brewster Travel Canada Adventure/Outdoors Award at the recent 2016 Canadian Tourism Awards, presented by The Toronto Star.

Held on November 30, 2016 at the Hilton Lac-Leamy in Gatineau, Quebec, the Canadian Tourism Awards are presented annually by the Tourism Industry Association of Canada (TIAC) to recognize success, leadership and innovation in Canada's tourism industry, and to reward those people, places, organizations and events that have gone above and beyond to offer travellers superior tourism experiences in Canada.

"We're very honoured to receive the Adventure/Outdoors Award," said Mike Reimer, the co-founder/owner of Churchill Wild along with his wife Jeanne. "We'd like to congratulate our fellow nominees Northern Edge Algonquin and Wilderness Tours, and to say thank you to TIAC. It was an excellent experience with fabulous dining. TIAC and Hilton put on a great performance. It was a wonderful evening in every way."

"It's a fantastic time to be involved in tourism in Canada," said Reimer. "Being positioned in Manitoba, with its incredibly healthy polar bear population, provides us with the best ecotourism opportunities in the Northern hemisphere. Through the support of our partners, especially Travel Manitoba, we've been able to create an exceptionally wild experience and promote it throughout the world. And the guests are loving it."

Churchill Wild offers guests the rare opportunity to see polar bears up close in their natural habitat from July through November at their three different fly-in polar bear lodges, which include: Nanuk Polar Bear Lodge, located 250 km southeast of Churchill, Manitoba; Dymond Lake Eco-Lodge, 30 km north of Churchill; and Seal River Heritage Lodge, 60 km north of Churchill. Both Seal River Heritage Lodge and Nanuk Polar Bear Lodge are members of National Geographic Unique Lodges of the World.

Churchill Wild began offering its unique brand of polar bear walking tours as a small family-owned and operated business over 23 years ago, with only one paying customer. Today they employ over 40 team members and host over 600 guests per year at their remote polar bear lodges. Earlier this year, Churchill Wild also received the Award of Distinction at the Manitoba Tourism Awards.

The rare combination of walking the wild tundra with polar bears, exceptional customer service, and a delicious culinary experience based on their award-winning cookbook series Blueberries & Polar Bears, has resulted in guests becoming ambassadors for Churchill Wild all over the world.
