A group of 77 students were guests at a special open house and seminar at the Church of Scientology of Inglewood, California, March 12, 2013.
The students are enrolled in a sociology class at City Honors Preparatory High School, a charter school in Inglewood, and the seminar was designed to enhance their studies. It provided an overview of The Way to Happiness, a nonreligious moral code based entirely on common sense.
The sociological impact of The Way to Happiness includes its use in successfully rehabilitating offenders in juvenile facilities and correctional institutions. It is also a helpful component in drug rehabilitation. Its distribution has been effective in reducing crime and it has also restored calm in times of civil unrest.
But The Way to Happiness had more than an academic relevance to the students. It is a common sense guide to better living and its primary use is character education. As such, it forwards the vision of City Honors Preparatory High School: “to create students of character in a multi-cultural society,” who are “high achievers, who will be ethically well-rounded, disciplined, and technologically prepared.”
The students studied several of the 21 precepts of The Way to Happiness including “Take Care of Yourself,” “Be Competent” and the Epilogue. They watched the public service announcements relating to these precepts, read the relevant chapters of the book and watched the corresponding sections of The Way to Happiness book-on-film. Each student was given their own copy of the booklet.
Over their lunch hour, many of the students toured the Church’s Public Information Center to learn more about The Way to Happiness and its use in uplifting communities the world over.
The Way to Happiness was written in 1981 by author, humanitarian and Scientology Founder L. Ron Hubbard. Immensely popular since its first publication, more than 100 million copies have been distributed in 109 languages in 205 countries and territories.
The Church of Scientology and its members are proud to share the tools for happier living contained in The Way to Happiness with all who also have the goal of a better world. For more information, visit http://www.scientology.org/how-we-help/way-to-happiness.html
