Cigar 101 - Cigar How-to's from Cigar Advisor

There has been a lot of confusion about the cellophane wrappers that come on cigars. Customers are always asking, 'Should I remove the cellophane from cigars?

Easton, PA (PRWEB) June 24, 2013

The all-new Cigar Advisor is an online cigar magazine that brings a fresh, irreverent, and down-to-earth perspective on all things cigars to thousands of smokers. In addition to educational cigar content and behind-the-scenes cigar industry articles from some of the business’s top names, Cigar Advisor delivers an array of content about a variety of topics of interest to people who enjoy the cigar lifestyle. The magazine also features cigar reviews and ratings submitted by real smokers. Cigar Advisor has just published a new addition to their how-to series, Cigars 101, on the pros and cons of removing cellophane wrappers from cigars.

According to Cigar Advisor Executive Editor Lou Tenney, "there has been a lot of confusion about the cellophane wrappers that come on cigars. Customers are always asking, 'Should I remove the cellophane from cigars?'"

He adds that the question draws surprisingly impassioned opinions from both sides of the fence. Anti-cellophane cigar smokers correctly claim that the cigars are able to breathe better, thus concentrating the benefits of home aging cigars into a shorter timeframe, with an additional benefit coming in the development of plume, the crystallized tobacco oils that can form on the wrappers of cigars which age extensively and remain untouched.

Pro-cellophane cigar smokers correctly counter that cellophane is a breathable material, so that any gains made during the aging process are soon equalized. They argue that leaving the cellophane wrappers intact protects the wrappers from minor damage, while acting as a first line of defense against tobacco beetles or mold.

Ultimately, Tenney says, it boils down to personal preference. It's up to the smoker to weigh his options, and make a decision based upon what's right for his situation. He goes on to note that some cigar smokers even trim the cellophane wrappers even with the foot of the cigar, so that they can "breathe" while keeping their wrappers intact.
