Right now Cincinnati is experiencing a notable decline in crime, not just compared last year but also to the year before. As of earlier this month, 2012 total crime was done 9% compared to 2011 and 7% compared to 2010.
Chief of Police James Craig is of course encouraged by the drop in overall crime, but still understands that there is work to be done. “We do see violence more in the undeveloped area,” Craig said recently after a shooting death in a neighborhood in District 1. In that district alone homicide is down 88%.
There are six districts within Cincinnati including the Central Business District. Below is a list of the districts with the total number of crimes reported in 2012.
District 1 – 817
District 2 – 1,594
District 3 – 2,684
District 4 – 1,971
District 5 – 1,776
Central Business District - 489
