On June 20, city bike designer Linus Bike commends Daly City council member, Mike Guingona, for bicycling across all 117 miles of Daly City’s public roads in order to promote bicycling awareness.

According to an article on, Daly City Council member, Mike Guingona, will be bicycling across all 117 miles of Daly City’s public roads as a part of his Bike With Mike campaign. This initiative was created in order to promote bicycling, raise awareness about health issues and to inspire people to be more active. As he pursues his goal in “small, daily increments,” Guingona is making “firsthand observations about the state of bicycle infrastructure in his community.”

He tells the SF Examiner, “I’m looking at what we have. I have a map of existing and proposed bike routes, and I’m doing my own assessment.”

One issue he has found for those who commute to work by bike is that certain designated bike paths take bicyclists off the public road. He explains that this is good for those who bike for pleasure but is inconvenient for commuters because the diverted path reduces many opportunities to turn off onto cross streets.

He says, “All commuters want is, ‘How can I get from Point A to Point B safely?’”
Guingona will be carrying a GPS device with him so his progress can be tracked on Facebook and Twitter.

Jason Latty, a representative from Linus Bike, a city bike designer, commends the councilman for his active approach at raising awareness. “When a prominent figure in your community creates an initiative to spread awareness that he’s taking a direct and active approach in, it shows that they truly care about the message they’re trying to convey. What Mr. Guingona is doing for his community is admirable and I’m sure it will catch fire across the area. We wish him the best of luck as he rides to promote cycling and healthier living.”
