Lynnwood, WA (PRWEB) October 30, 2012
As 2012 begins to wind down, small business owner Stacie McMillan and her Lynnwood WA house cleaning team at Clean and Simple Cleaning are gearing up for their second annual Deannie Douglas Award, where one woman in either South Snohomish County or North Kings County, Washington will receive an entire year of free house cleaning.
The award is in honor of McMillan's long-time friend Deannie Douglas, who after a six year struggle with breast cancer, passed away in 2003 from the debilitating disease. When Douglas first got sick, McMillan offered to clean her home as a means to ease the burden off her friend. "Deannie was thrilled and she raved about how good the cleanings made her feel. I then knew the importance of coming home to a clean home when you have so many other more pressing things on your mind," says McMillan.
Douglas was also the main inspiration for Clean and Simple Cleaning's involvement with both Cleaning for a Reason, an organization that offers free house cleanings to women undergoing treatment for cancer and Cleaning Angels USA which makes home cleaning available, free of charge, to those individuals undergoing treatment for cancer and other serious illnesses.
The 2012 recipient of the award, Erica Sternin, who had recently been diagnosed with breast cancer, was nominated by a long time client of Clean and Simple Cleaning. Says McMillan, "after hearing her touching story we knew she would be the perfect recipient for the first Deannie Douglas Award."
Sternin says, "There have been a couple of times when I had a cleaning done on "chemo day" and that was just delightful. Coming home to a sparkling sink and clean bathroom and all the dog and cat hair vacuumed is a special kind of Heaven. Thank you, my Clean and Simple angels! You've been a huge part of my healing this year."
Thousands of women every year are diagnosed with cancer, including Clean and Simple Cleanings' very own Operations Manager, Janet Swett, who not only fought breast cancer, but survived! "We cannot wait to hear the amazing stories of courage and to give another amazing woman a clean house for an entire year!" says McMillan.
