“The center will be a one-stop shop for healthcare,” said Joseph Knapp, M.D., the center’s Medical Director.
Cleveland, OH (PRWEB) November 30, 2011
Cleveland Clinic today announced its new Avon health center will be named in honor of former Cleveland Indians owner, developer and philanthropist Richard E. Jacobs.
The Richard E. Jacobs Health Center, which is scheduled to open Dec. 12, 2011, will be located off of Lear Nagle Road. The $97.9 million, 190,000-square-foot center will include four operating rooms, four procedure rooms and 23-hour overnight stay capabilities. The center will employ 400 physicians, nurses and support staff when it is fully staffed.
The center also will provide primary care, more than 30 specialty services, a pharmacy, on-site laboratory and a large physical therapy area with two aquatic therapy pools.
“We look forward to expanding our services for residents of Lorain County and western Cuyahoga County,” said John Costin, M.D., Chairman of Cleveland Clinic’s Lorain Institute. “We have been in Lorain County for 30 years and this is another testament of our commitment to providing convenient medical care to our community.”
The design of the new facility, which is located on land donated by Richard E. Jacobs Group, will allow families to easily navigate through the building.
“The center will be a one-stop shop for healthcare,” said Joseph Knapp, M.D., the center’s Medical Director. “We have state-of-the art imaging and laboratory services, so patients will not need to travel to different facilities. Patients also can have outpatient surgery and consultations all in one center.”
Dr. Knapp added the center’s first-floor rehabilitation area will be unique to this region.
“The center will have two large aquatic therapy pools, a full gym and rehabilitation services on the first floor of the center,” he said. “We can help everyone from weekend warriors to patients recovering from a stroke.”
A new Interstate 90 interchange at Lear Nagle Road will facilitate access to the Avon center. The opening of the center’s 24-hour emergency department will coincide with the opening of the interchange in the future.
Cleveland Clinic broke ground for the center in November 2009. Cleveland-based Donley’s Inc. was the construction manager on the project, and URS Corp. designed the building.
Cleveland Clinic also offers primary care specialty services at its medical office buildings on Columbia Road in Westlake including behavioral health; internal medicine; ear, nose and throat; and vascular surgery.
Individuals looking for a doctor for routine care or for a medical specialist are invited to choose one of 18 Family Health Centers in the greater Cleveland area. In addition to the new Avon center, Cleveland Clinic offers primary care physicians, pediatricians, and other specialists throughout Lorain County, including:
- The Lorain Family Health and Surgery Center on Cooper Foster Park Road
- The Elyria Family Health and Surgery Center at Chestnut Commons
- The Avon Lake Family Health Center on Walker Road
- The Avon Medical Offices on American Way
