Grid Dynamics (formerly known as Mirantis) today announced it has completed the transfer of Mentor Graphics’ (Nasdaq: MENT) Center of Excellence (CoE) to Mentor Graphics after Grid Dynamics built the CoE, operated it while preparing Mentor Graphics for the transfer, and integrated the CoE fully into Mentor Graphics’ day-to-day operations.

Mentor Graphics is a worldwide leader in electronic design automation (EDA) with over 70 offices around the world. The CoE, which was established to further the company’s work in photolithography, is located in Moscow, Russia. Grid Dynamics and Mentor Graphics worked jointly on the project for three years. The CoE was established and staffed by Grid Dynamics, which gradually transferred operational and technical expertise to Mentor Graphics. The project culminated with Mentor Graphics taking over full ownership and operation of the CoE.

“Mirantis (now Grid Dynamics) has been an exceptional partner throughout the process,” said Juan Rey, senior engineering director for Mentor Graphics’ Calibre Division. “Their engineers and project managers were extremely knowledgeable and professional, and they made it a priority to get us up to speed by sharing their domain expertise and best practices. It was true teamwork and we couldn’t be happier with the results. We now have a CoE that provides us with a significant advantage in a very competitive industry.”

This is the latest success for Grid Dynamics’ proven build-operate-transfer (BOT) process that is designed specifically to integrate highly skilled teams of engineers into the business operations of Fortune 1000 companies. The Mentor Graphics project follows the completion of a similar Center of Excellence that Grid Dynamics implemented for Cadence Design Systems. That CoE is one of the biggest development centers operated by Cadence.

“A key factor in our ability to deliver consistent results with our BOT process is our focus on close collaboration with our customers,” said Alex Freedland, former CEO of Mirantis. “Technical excellence is only one ingredient. We also help companies like Mentor Graphics integrate a CoE into the larger organizational structure, culture and business processes. When we hand off the operations of a CoE, we expect the facility to be a seamless part of the customer’s organization, and we expect it to be a significant addition to the customer’s R&D program.”

Grid Dynamics sets up, staffs and manages strategic Centers of Excellence for companies in financial services, life sciences, and the technology industry. Customers utilize Grid Dynamics services to shorten time to market for new products, improve the efficiency and predictability of operations, and increase the yield from their in-house personnel.
