Linxter, Inc., provider of the Linxter cloud messaging platform, today announces the release of a cloud-based integration service, or cloud connector, between Linxter and PayPal. It enables developers to quickly and easily add credit card payment options via PayPal to their desktop apps. The connector, along with sample code and a video tutorial, is available at the aptly named website, http://smoothdough.com.

With Linxter’s cloud connector, developers can easily provide in-app purchases and a simplified upgrade process (from free apps to paid versions) for their customers. The connector allows developers to take advantage of the PayPal API without becoming PayPal API experts. They simply need to create a PayPal Website Pro account, create a Linxter account, and start consuming the service. All of the complexities of enabling a desktop app to process financial transactions are taken care of by the connector so that developers can focus on the core value proposition of their app.

“Linxter’s PayPal cloud connector is ideal for developers who want to make their apps free to download, but with the ability to easily upgrade to a paid version in order to unlock additional features,” said Jason Milgram, CEO of Linxter. He also added, “It is also great for high volume transactions as the Linxter cloud connector queues authorization requests whereas calling the PayPal API directly requires an app to wait for each authorization as it is made.”

Connecting Linxter and PayPal makes compliance simple, since there is no need to store any sensitive end user data — financial or personal — at the point of authorization, and all transmitted data is encrypted. Tying Linxter into PayPal also means that financial transactions are reliable even when conditions are not. For example, if an application loses Internet connection during a transaction, Linxter will keep the transaction intact so that it can resume whenever the Internet connection is reestablished. In addition, the transaction processing is offloaded to the cloud, so applications do not get locked-up and can continue performing other operations.

SmoothDough offers a public cloud connector, which is free, as well as the option of private cloud connectors, which start at $20 per month. Private cloud connectors can be built and deployed to the Amazon Cloud (Amazon EC2), the Rackspace Cloud, or Windows Azure in a mere fifteen minutes. Private cloud connectors can also be run on-premise.
