Corning, NY (Vocus) November 7, 2009
The Corning Museum of Glass kicks off the holidays on Thursday, November 19, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., with the free event, 2300 Degrees: Glittering Traditions.
During the event, the Museum will officially light its 14-foot glass ornament tree, which boasts more than 1,300 handmade glass ornaments created by the Museum's Hot Glass Show staff. The giant tree is complemented by an eight-foot tree in the Museum's GlassMarket featuring more than 600 ornaments made at Vitrix Studios in Corning.
In honor of the recently opened exhibition, Tiffany Treasures, local artist Kurt Walrath will create colorful Tiffany-inspired pieces on the Hot Glass Show Stage. Tiffany Treasure, which showcases beautiful examples of Tiffany's blown-glass works as well as glass design drawings by two women who worked at his studio, will be open during the event.
Live music will be provided by Entrain, a Cape Cod-based band with a world beat sound that merges funk, rock, reggae and more.
Food and drink will be available for purchase, along with complimentary hors d'oeuvres. A free shuttle bus will run from the Museum's main parking lot off Rt. 17/I-86, exit 46, until 8:30 p.m.
